Hardly any village attracts less attention than Esporles, although many holidaymakers come to Esporles every year to visit one of the most famous open-air museums on the island. We're talking about "La Granja". This imposing country estate with a historic manor house is located in the valley above the village and offers an impressive insight into the lifestyle of the Mallorcan nobility in the past. Esporles offers a wonderful market on Saturdays, which invites you to stroll or sit in one of the many cafés to relax. In ancient times, the inhabitants of Esporles were feared by the nobility. They fought at the forefront of the peasant uprisings of the 1450s and 1520s, looting the surrounding estates. After the riots were suppressed in 1523, 53 percent of the population were executed. At the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, Esporles was one of the very few places in Mallorca to take up arms against the military putsch. But the resistance of the (textile) workers was violently broken after a few days.
