Montuiri was built on and around the hill on which highest spots there are flour mills, seen already from a distance. In the partly steep and narrow alleys there is everything you might need, bakery, banks, household article shops. Here you sit in front of the bar, under a giant rubber tree together with farmers, bankers and other trippers. Montuiri is one of the oldest localities on Mallorca. In the year 1300 the place received from Jaume II its own rights and the center of the locality became rectangular – directly next to the mill wheels quarter.
8 mill wheels of Molinar (mill wheel quarter) are until today well maintained and they shape the profile of the place. The weekly market takes place always on Mondays on the main square and it is worth seeing as well as the whole locality. The small alleys on the hill supply with cooling in the summer.
