Palma de Mallorca – only the sound of this name already awakes in us longing for the south! Palma de Mallorca in Catalan “La Ciutat” – the city – this is how the Majorcans call their town. And this is right – because Palma is really the city – the city that never sleeps, that conceals giant treasures, that is dreamlike beautiful, that makes dreams come true and is very alive. Palma is the capital of Majorca and the head office of the independent government of Balearic Islands. At the same time it is a supply centre of the island with the biggest port and the biggest airport.
Today Palma has approximately 400.000 inhabitants and the population has almost doubled in the last 30 years. Despite of the increase of the city the old town belongs to the biggest and the best maintained in Europe and it houses monuments of world cultural heritage. In the small streets you will find wonderful city palaces and art nouveau houses that hide a lot of treasures. Alone such a big number of patios (courtyards) are a glory. Palma de Mallorca is surely a wonderful city that doesn´t have to hide its splendour. When you have a walk along the paseo you have an impression of a superlative that the place offers. Many quarters of the city are worth seeing with their innumerable bars, designer and boutiques. Below the cathedral on the right hand side there is the impressive port of the metropolis of the island. No matter how much you read about Palma – it will be not enough; you should just visit the city and let it impress you.
