Information and situation to Santa Margalida
Santa Margalida or Santa Margarita, situated a little higher up, is a small village in the northwest of the central part of Mallorca, better known as the Pla de Mallorca. You see it in the middle of a quiet and slightly undulating agricultural landscape, you hardly find any signs of tourism. For a long time, this fertile surrounding land was used for agriculture and cattle breeding. The municipality of Santa Margalida is made up of three urban centres, Santa Margalida, Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina, the two last ones mentioned are much better known and visited.
Especially the tourist area of Can Picafort and the beach of Son Serra de Marina. It is worth noting that the region around Santa Margalida was inhabited in very early history, going back to prehistoric times. The village’s Plaza de la Vila offers some interesting buildings but the church of Santa Margalida, which is the most emblematic of the village, stands out.
